Supervision
- On-site supervision is recommended following initial skill instruction and after all safety concerns have been emphasized.
- Trained facility Marshals should provide continuous supervision during game-play.
- Teachers may supervise game-play from the Viewing Room, or from within the play arena as an active player. Passive supervision from within the play arena, without the proper visibility equipment, can pose a hazard.
Instructional Considerations
- Facility-specific briefs and / or instruction sessions should be conducted prior to entering the play area.
- Contact between players and / or their equipment is not permitted.
- Running is not permitted. Many arenas have dim or decorative lighting; players should be careful with their footing.
- Climbing on arena obstacles or stunting in play areas should not be permitted.
- Flashing lights can induce seizures; teachers should be aware of students who may have photosensitivity or a history of epilepsy or concussion.
- Game-play must be immediately halted if so instructed by the facility staff. They are in charge.
- If an injury occurs, the player must be removed from the arena and tended to immediately.
- Students must not wear audio devices with earphones.
- Emphasize the importance of fair-play. Blocking sensors is cheating.
Equipment/Facilities
- Students should do a safety inspection of equipment before each use.
- Ensure no loose parts.
- Ensure vest or body pack is snug, but not restrictive. Likewise, vests should not be loose enough to be a snag or strangulation hazard.
- Open-toed shoes or sandals are not permitted.
- Food and beverages should not be permitted in the play area, regardless of facility rules.
- If eye protection is not provided by the facility, safety glasses should be borrowed from the school’s equipment pool.
N.B. Class 2 (II) lasers are low-powered light-emitting devices and are generally considered not harmful to eyes or vision unless their beam is deliberately stared at.
