Rock Climbing (Trad)

Print

TRAD CLIMBING SHOULD NOT BE UNDERTAKEN AS A SCHOOL ACTIVITY.

Trad climbing, short for traditional climbing, is a free climbing technique where climbers place their own protection (like cams and nuts) into the rock as they ascend, rather than relying on pre-placed bolts. This approach contrasts with sport climbing, where bolts are pre-placed on the route.

These placements are temporary and are removed by the second climber as they ascend. As such, Trad Climbing is a highly-specialized activity that requires great skill and extensive experience.
