Supervision

  • On-site supervision is recommended during initial skill instruction.
  • In-the-area supervision is recommended following skill instruction and after all safety concerns have been emphasized.

 

Instructional Considerations

  • Sticks should not be brought above waist level.
  • Teachers should provide instruction on proper basic field hockey skills.
  • Teachers should provide instruction on proper offensive and defensive skills and strategies.
  • If goalkeeping equipment is not available use mini goals to score on.

 

Equipment/Facilities

  • Sticks should be checked regularly for cracks.
  • Regulation field hockey ball or other soft rubber ball should be used.
  • Mouth guards and shin guards should be worn by all students during activity when a regulation (hard) field hockey ball is used.
  • Goalkeepers must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet and face mask at all times.
  • Gloves, a chest protector, a lower abdominal protector, goalie pads and kickers should be worn by goalkeeper.
  • Portable goals should be checked prior to activity to ensure they are secure.
  • Suitable clothing and footwear should be worn.
  • Regulation or soft indoor field hockey sticks should be used.
